Crawford Violin Concerto No.2 in E minor
For Full Orchestra
Description
Crawford Began writing this during winter break not long after the premiere of his “Edison Overture”. He showed his first violin concerto to his friend, but his friend said he didn't like the key of G Minor for many reasons. That triggered him to write another violin concerto. This time, it was in his favorite key E Minor, which was also a key he considered to be an easy key for strings.
He also wanted to make this concerto speak out more, so he added more instruments like the harp. He made sure to make the violin sing so it could catch its listener's attention, specifically his friend's attention. He repeatedly used the element of suspense in the finale and decided to add more challenging things to make it sound more impressive. In the end, the spectacular concerto made his friend want to give it a try and Crawford's mission was a success.
This piece has fabulous Violin, Trumpet, Bassoon, Clarinet, Oboe, Timpani, Low Strings, and French Horn excerpts.
